Agency Training Modules:

Understanding Children with Disabilities and How They Play

Includes disability awareness activities including simulations, play techniques based on disability category and providing disability resources.

Using Technology with children with disabilities

Includes both hands-on and/or case studies on using computers successfully with children ages 1-8. Trainers are able to demonstrate and/or teach participants how to use a variety of adaptive computer equipment such as IntelliKeys, switch activated software and more. Lekotek has a vast array of educational and adaptive software that may be used for training.

Adapting Toys, Equipment & Activities for Accessible Play

Through hands-on workshops, trainers teach the necessary skills to adapt toys and play activities that will enable children with special needs to successfully access play. For an extra materials fee, participants can make an adapted switch. Other topics may include positioning for play.

Working with Families

Participants will also increase their knowledge of important topics such as family dynamics and domains of play, both of which influence the success of a play session. At the day’s conclusion, participants will better understand how to lead a Lekotek play session, families’ perspective on disability, and creative ways to play.

Disability Awareness

Enhance participants knowledge of disability. Through role playing trainees will learn person first language, the power of words and develop a greater sense of empathy for people with disabilities .
