| This 5-day training is geared towards those who will provide Lekotek services at a certified Lekotek program. | |||||
| Day 1 | |||||
| Understanding Children with Disabilities and How They Play | |||||
| We will focus on disability awareness, play techniques and disability resources. Participants will engage in disability simulations. | |||||
| Day 2 | |||||
| Integrating Technology into the Play Session | |||||
| Through both hands-on and case study approach, participants will gain knowledge of the way computers can be used successfully for all children. Trainees will learn how to use a variety of adaptive computer equipment such as IntelliKeys, switch activated software and more. They will also become familiar with a wide range of educational software, which can all be used as tools to encourage play, discovery and learning. | |||||
| Day 3 | |||||
| Adapting Toys, Equipment & Activities for Accessible Play | |||||
| Through hands-on workshops, participants will learn the necessary skills to adapt toys and play activities that will enable children with special needs to successfully access play. Participants will make an adapted switch for a toy. Other topics include positioning for play and toy adaptation. | |||||
| Day 4 - (Call for availability) | |||||
| The Lekotek Model and Working with Families | |||||
| Attendees will increase their awareness and understanding of the philosophy of Lekotek. Participants will also increase their knowledge of important topics such as family dynamics and domains of play, both of which influence the success of a play session. At the day’s conclusion, participants will better understand how to lead a Lekotek play session, families’ perspective on disability, and creative ways to play. | |||||

| Essential Aspects of the Play Session – Tools of the Trade | |||||
Through both a hands-on and case study or actual family, participants will end the day able to prepare and lead a play session including seeking appropriate toys for a child’s specific abilities and organizing a play space. At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to successfully demonstrate a “family play session” using appropriate play facilitation techniques and toy selection. |
